The real magic of PeopleGPT: using AI to search through millions of profiles.
Note: this guide required first reading the section on AI filters. After you have successfully set up your AI filters, continue with the text below.
Setting up a Search
After you have successfully set your AI filters, PeopleGPT shows you initial results. From here, you have the opportunity to re-rank using the search text. This will let you search through your set of filtered results.
Select the search bar and start describing who you might be looking for. In the example below, I narrowed in on profiles with “experience building fraud detection algorithms”, with existing filters narrowing the search down to software engineers.
Running a search will apply to the candidate pool you already narrowed down to. In this example, I am running a search for experience building fraud algorithms within my previously set filters of being a software engineer and located in San Francisco.
Prompting Effectively
To prompt effectively, consider the following tips:
- Describe your desired criteria within a sentence or less. Long texts will yield less effective results.
- Be specific with your search.
- Phrase it as a short sentence, e.g. “Experience with < text >”, not as a question.
- Focus on one or two key characteristics. Having more than that is usually indicative of some of them being better fit for filters, instead.
Example Prompts
✅ Effective Prompts
- Experience working in the agricultural technology industry
- Skilled in Machine Learning
- Experience selling financial software to Fortune 500 companies
What makes these prompts effective? They are concise, clearly specify a desired experience, and are difficult to recreate using regular filters instead.
❌ Ineffective Prompts
- Please change the location to the United States
→ Instead, use the “Edit Filters” button to change the location filter, or any other hard requirements. See AI Filters for more details.
- I am looking for John Doe
→ To find a specific person, go to the Shortlisted Contacts tab and select “Add Candidate.”
- Find a Project Manager who is skilled in AWS, has worked at a Fortune 500 company, lives in Germany, and has experience in the Automotive sector
→ While this query may still work, it is advisable to first adjust the hard filters. For example, adding location = Germany and job title = Project Manager would be a good starting point.
